In Abidjan, Mélanie is a fashion designer by training from Paris École de Condé, One of the premier institution in France for arts and designs. Unlike many of her peers she decided to move back home to help kick-start her own creation that has now grown to become a household name in her region. Her search for the ultimate platform to showcase her talent and the strength of her creations to a larger public led to the creation of her fashion brand melyjay in 2008.
A fashionista at heart, with working experience in different fashion house and retail outlets prior to lunching Melyjah, Mélanie has streamlined her vision to focus on adding western embellishment to the softer palette of African prints cut. Over time, she has been able to churn out a range of timeless, trendy and occasionally quirky western blended African silhouettes. Kudos to a small workforce of around ten people comprising mainly of freelancer tailors.
